Greta Garbo in The Saga of Gosta Berling (1924), a Swedish romantic drama. It was Garbo’s native breakout role in film.
The film is based on Selma Lagerlöf’s novel, published in 1891. The first sentence, “Finally, the vicar was in the pulpit,” is one of the most famous in Swedish literature.
